mordechai,

great story, but who is the source of *reb ahron's* giving smicha to shlomo?

the story i heard is that shlomo left lakewood for lubavitch.
the rebbe (mm"s) instructed shlomo not to see him again
without smicha. (meaning shlomo *didn't* have smicha when he
left lakewood). first shlomo went to reb moshe. reb moshe said, come see me
after yom tov. not wanting to wait & have to stay away from lubavitch for
yom tov, shlomo went to rav hutner. rav hutner said what shall i ask you?
shlomo said lets pick a gemorra at random and i'll come back to you in
three days
with an original torah. he came back in 3 days & started saying torah.
r. hutner interrupted shlomo & said i'll give you smicha. come back to me
in 3 days. 3 days later, shlomo came back & the table was set with candles,
"lekach" and "branfum". r. hutner told shlomo. the day you give smicha
is the yom tov of matan torah. so i have set the table. and he gave
him smicha.
